The CAT 6 UTP Indoor Cable supports Gigabit Ethernet at up to
1000 Mbps with 250 MHz bandwidth — faster and cleaner than CAT 5e.
Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) construction reduces crosstalk and
electromagnetic interference between cable runs. PVC outer jacket
is flexible enough to pull through walls, conduit, and ceiling voids
without kinking. Sequential metre markings printed on the sheath
allow precise cutting and reduce installation waste.

PoE and PoE+ compatible — carries both data and power to IP cameras,
wireless access points, and VoIP phones over a single cable run
without separate power lines.

Where CAT 6 UTP Indoor Cable Gets Used in Kenya

CCTV and IP camera installations — The most common use for
CAT 6 in Kenya. Runs from a PoE switch or NVR to each IP camera
location, carrying both data and power over one cable.
Supports Hikvision, Dahua, and EZVIZ IP cameras up to 100 metres
per run without signal degradation. CAT 6 handles the higher
power demands of PoE+ PTZ cameras better than CAT 5e.

Office and corporate LAN installations — Structured cabling
for office buildings, running from patch panels to wall outlets
to desks. CAT 6 future-proofs the installation for 10 Gigabit

CAT 6 vs CAT 5e — Which Do You Need?

For any new installation in Kenya — whether CCTV, office LAN,
or home networking — CAT 6 is the recommended standard.
The price difference over CAT 5e is minimal on a full reel
and the performance headroom is significantly better.

What This Cable Is NOT Suitable For

• Outdoor installations — This is an indoor-rated
  PVC jacket cable. Direct burial, outdoor runs,
  or exposure to UV and moisture will degrade the
  jacket and affect performance. For outdoor runs,
  use CAT 6 outdoor-rated cable with a UV-resistant
  PE jacket — available at Yasaf Tech Centre.
• Runs over 100 metres — Ethernet over copper has
  a maximum reliable run of 100 metres per segment.
  For longer distances, use a media converter with
  fibre optic cable or install an intermediate switch.
• High-interference industrial environments — UTP
  (Unshielded) cable is sufficient for most office
  and home environments. In environments with heavy
  machinery, generators, or strong electromagnetic
  sources, shielded CAT 6 (STP or FTP) is more appropriate.

Common Questions

What is the difference between solid copper and CCA?
Solid copper (BC — Bare Copper) conductors provide better
conductivity, lower resistance, and more reliable PoE
power delivery over long runs. CCA (Copper Clad Aluminum)
is lighter and cheaper but has higher resistance,
which can cause issues with PoE devices at longer distances
and degrades faster over time. For CCTV and PoE installations,
solid copper is strongly recommended.

How many metres do I need for a typical CCTV installation?
A typical 4-camera installation in a Nairobi house or
small shop requires 80–150 metres depending on
camera positions and routing. An 8-camera installation
typically needs 200–300 metres. The 305m box covers
most 8-camera installations in one reel with
minimal waste.

Can I use it with a PoE switch to power Hikvision cameras?
Yes. CAT 6 UTP is fully compatible with IEEE 802.3af
(PoE) and 802.3at (PoE+) standards. Connect the
PoE switch to your NVR via uplink, run CAT 6 from
each switch port to each camera location,
and the switch delivers both data and power
over the same cable. No separate camera power
adapters needed.

What tools do I need to terminate the cable?
For patch leads with RJ45 connectors: a crimping tool
and RJ45 plugs. For wall outlets and patch panels:
a punch-down tool and CAT 6 keystone jacks or
patch panel modules. All termination tools and
